In
these uncertain times, it is important that Singapore’s social fabric
is kept intact. At CMT, we recognise that the three shopping malls
can play a part by embracing the community and bringing people together.
Throughout
the year, the malls have actively supported numerous community events,
both large and small, in an attempt to raise awareness and funds
for charitable purposes. The most common way CMT supports community
groups and charity institutions is to provide a venue for them to
promote their cause.
In
2002, CMT joined forces with The New Paper to launch a special community
programme called “The New Paper Y-Scene CMT Award”.
Unlike
other scholastic awards, Y-Scene’s purpose was to reward and recognise
individuals who have triumphed against the odds. Over six months,
18 candidates were profiled in monthly supplements in The New Paper
and readers were asked to vote for their favourite student. In total,
six students received top votes from readers and received shopping
vouchers and a year’s worth of school fees.
In
December, the finalists were once
again profiled in The New Paper and
the winner walked away with S$1,000
worth of vouchers. Overall, The New
Paper Y-Scene CMT Award donated
over S$9,000 worth of prizes in cash
and kind to a very special group of
talented and determined youths.
